Step 7: the delivery
Once the mix is ready, the audio is delivered to the commissioner for broadcast or release.
There is paperwork to be completed: a music report, listing all tracks used, so Performing Rights Society fees can be paid to the composer and musicians; publicity material; in the case of the BBC, supply a compliance form, where they flag anything that BBC should know about in terms of possibly challenging language used or content; and on air presentation details, where the BBC continuity person announces the drama.
There may be publicity materials made, with clips from the drama, either by the production team or the company commissioning the drama.
Once the producer has signed off the mix, it goes to an exec producer to be signed off.
Role 7
The exec is usually a very experienced audio drama producer. They:
Listen to the final mixed drama, to confirm that it is of sufficiently high technical quality and meets the broadcaster’s brief
check the publicity and delivery paperwork that the producer will submit to complete delivery
